The Seal Beach community was rocked On Wednesday, October 12, when a man walked into Maritage Salon, shot and killed eight people.
According to news reports, 41-year-old Scott Evans Dekraai, was targeting his ex-wife, a stylist at the salon, with whom he was allegedly in a bitter custody dispute. Police arrested Dekraai a mile from the scene of the crime.
This is the kind of thing residents of sleepy towns like Seal Beach never expect to experience. On Thursday, nearly 1,000 members of the community gathered at Maritage Salon for a vigil in honor of those who were killed. Together, they mourned for their friends, family and neighbors lost in this act of senseless violence.
