Past the Mesa Overlook and rest stop, there are several trails to choose from. You can walk past the Heron Nesting Trees and follow the Pocket Loop Trail, go through the tidal gates which provides access to the Inner Bay Loop Trail, or enter the Channel Flap gates and walk along the the Flood Control Channel. Along the Flood Control Channel you’ll discover remnants of the sand dunes banked by the highway and tidal basin mudflats.
