Orange County July Events Calendar

By

The Summer months are always packed with so many things to do. There's a bit of theater, a bit of sport, a few festivals, and of course, we celebrate American Independence Day. Here are some highlights of the events happening in Orange County during July.

Independence Day Celebrations

When: July 1-4
Where: Various

No matter where you are in the O.C., you’ll have no trouble finding something to do for the Independence Day weekend. There are parades and festivals, fireworks and cruises, 5ks and a 4th of July symphonic tribute to the Elvis Presley. For information on specific events and locations, go here.

Free Concerts in the Park

When: Various
Where: Various

This annual summer concert series features a range of musical performances, across many genres, in cities all over the county. All of the concerts are free and families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy an evening of music under the stars. Dates, locations and performers vary. Check here for event locations and times in your area.

Pageant of the Masters

When: Opens July 7
Where: Laguna Beach

Described as 90-minutes of “living pictures,” this annual exhibit features live recreations of classical and contemporary art works, with intricate sets, live narration and an original score, in an outdoor amphitheater. The theme this year is “Only Make Believe,” and promises to be a passport into a world of superheros and mythical creatures.

Shakespeare Festival

When: July 8 - 31
Where: San Juan Capistrano

This festival features productions of the Shakespeare classic Taming of the Shrew, and Shakespeare Inc., a theatrical take on the theory that Shakespeare did not write the works attributed to him. Visit the Camino Real Playhouse website for tickets and show times.

Woodstock Weekend

When: July 9-10
Where: O.C. Marketplace

Get ready for two days of Woodstock nostalgia, with concert performances from tribute bands recreating the music of rock bands from the late ‘60s, incliding. Both days will also feature the wares of local artisans, face painting, hippie stilt-walkers, tie-dye vendors, and some of Orange County’s favorite gourmet food trucks.

Relay for Life

When: July 9-10
Where: San Juan Capistrano

This event calls together people all over to word to participate in a 24-hour relay. The proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society; to honour those who have survived the disease, and pay tribute those who have not.

Shakespeare by the Sea

When: July 9-10
Where: Newport Beach

More Shakespeare? Why not? Every year this non-profit troupe travels around Los Angeles and Orange County doing free performances of Shakespeare plays. This year SBTS presents the Shakespearian romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing and The Tragedy of King Lear.

Orange County Fair

When: Opens July 15
Where: Costa Mesa

The O.C. Fair is one of the most popular and beloved festivals in Orange County. This year’s “Lets Eat!” theme is an ode to "gastronomical adventures," and features an array of food related events. Check out the Pacific Amphetheater’s summer concert series, performances by a variety of local tribute bands, action sports events, and browse the hand crafted wares from local artisans.

Irvine Mud Run

When: July 17
Where: Irvine Lake Park

With a 5K course that includes hills, water, a professionally built obstacle course, and -- you guesed it -- several mud pits, the Irvine Mud Run might arguably be one of Orange County's most challenging and fun public sporting events of the Summer. The proceeds benefit the Gavin R. Stevens foundation to raise awareness and money to research a rare condition called Leber's Congenital Amaurosis.

Ocean Festival

When: July 16-17
Where: San Clemente

Dubbed the “Greatest Show on Surf,” the San Clemente Ocean Festival evolved out of a desire to increase participation in the Orange County Beach Games. The festival includes athletic competitions for kids and adults, a sand castle building contest, a woody car exhibit, an art exhibit, a craft fair, science exhibits and more.
